Study Details: 30 months (part-time and online)
The MPH is internationally respected for its multidisciplinary focus and commitment to the World Health Organization’s (WHO) “Health for All” principles. It is an essential programme if you are working in any area of public health: governmental organisations, health services management, policy and planning, housing, transport, or for community groups and NGOs.
Public health aims to tackle the wider determinants of health. As a multidisciplinary subject, our students come from a wide variety of backgrounds, including medicine, nursing, pharmacy, occupational therapy, health services, health service management, environmental health and graduates with a background in the natural sciences, social sciences or humanities subjects.
With its modular format, the programme can be studied to postgraduate certificate, postgraduate diploma or master’s levels within the University. Our online students study part-time over two to six years and integrate the programme with their jobs and CPD.
On completion of the programme, the student should have a foundation in the science and art of public health, including an in-depth knowledge of the concepts of health and disease and factors, which may affect these.
The resulting knowledge, skills, and insight should enable students to integrate and apply public health principles and theories through collaboration with stakeholders in a variety of settings.
All applications for the Master of Public Health (MPH) are open to UK and International professionals who wish to study online.
As an applicant you should possess:
• A master’s or bachelor’s in medicine or non-health related degree at 2:2 or above, equivalent to a UK degree; plus
• Evidence of work experience (paid, voluntary, internships, etc.) relevant to public health.
We also welcome applicants without a degree, who will be considered on the basis of holding relevant work experience.
In addition to the above, applicants require a GCSE Grade 4, Grade C, or GCE O Level pass in Mathematics and English, or an equivalent qualification.
All applicants will need to provide a personal statement detailing why they wish to undertake the programme, and how their work experience is relevant to the programme.
All applicants must provide evidence that they have an English language ability equivalent to an IELTS (academic) score of 6.5 (overall) and 7.0 (reading and writing).
If you don’t have an IELTS or equivalent certificate, you can take our free online English test to assess your proficiency. You don’t need to prove your English ability if you are a national of, or have completed a qualification equivalent to a UK degree in, any of these countries.

An Executive Scholarship of 15% is available for our July 2025 intake.
A UK Scholarship of 20% is available for students residing in the United Kingdom, who enrol on the July 2025 intake of our full master’s awards.
International students residing in specific regions outside the UK may be eligible for a Regional Scholarship of up to 20%.
A separate application form is not required for a scholarship, as it will be applied once you have received your official offer letter. Please note, scholarships cannot be combined but can be used alongside our Up-front Payment Discount.
Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarship
If you are a Commonwealth resident, you may be able to apply for a Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarship to fund the online MPH programme. There are 10 full scholarships available for the October 2025 intake only.
Applications for candidates open on 8 April 2025 and close on 20 May 2025 at 16:00 GMT. This programme eligible is under the ‘Strengthening health systems and capacity‘ category.

Please note that you must also submit an application to study for the online MPH programme as well as completing the CSC application.
If you’re working in any area of public health and looking to progress your career, a master’s degree is essential. Upon completion of your programme, you will have the knowledge and skills to put public health principles into effect in a variety of settings including research, practice and policy. Your expertise could open senior roles in public health research and practice within a range of sectors, such as health organisations, governmental organisations, charities and NGOs.
The MPH consists of the following taught modules and a final dissertation project.
The optional modules you choose to study could enable you to pursue our specialist pathways in Global Mental Health, International Public Health or Management of Health Systems.
Shorter postgraduate diploma (120 credits) and postgraduate certificate (60 credits) awards are also available in this subject.
