Masters Degree Description

Our MA Textile Design course offers a unique platform for students to explore, collaborate and develop their own design approach for the future. Emphasising global issues, sustainability, and social impact, students are encouraged to be inquisitive and envision textiles’ transformative potential in enhancing lives. Through hands-on exploration of materials, texture, colour, pattern and construction, students delve into traditional craft skills reimagined for future applications with a focus on design, purpose, properties, aesthetic, and new possibilities for an onward life that is more sympathetic to the natural environment.

You will engage with the latest digital advancements, gaining a comprehensive understanding of market trends and the commercial potential of your work. The course encourages pushing the boundaries of traditional textile design through innovative use of materials and processes. With guidance from experienced practitioners in areas such as digital textile production, CAD, laser cutting, and more, you will develop your practice through exhibitions and national competitions. Through this rigorous academic and practical training, you will be well-equipped to make a significant impact in the field of textile design.

Entry Requirements

Entrants should normally have achieved a BA (Hons) / BSc Degree of 2:1 or above (or its equivalent), in a subject related to your proposed course of study.

Applicants who hold a Degree from another discipline may also be considered for entry, subject to the submission of a satisfactory portfolio of art, design or media-related work in support of their application.

Those with industry experience or relevant skills from non-traditional backgrounds are encouraged to apply, including individuals currently employed. If you’re unsure about your eligibility, please contact us for guidance before applying.

English language requirements (International/EU)
If English is not your first language, IELTS 6.5 (or equivalent) is required, with a minimum of 5.5 in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. we also accept other English language qualifications.

Portfolio requirement
When you apply for this course, we will ask you to prepare your portfolio and a written submission. We might also ask you to prepare for an interview. These methods are used to assess your suitability for the course. All three elements should clearly demonstrate your passion for the subject and your individual creativity.
