Masters Degree Description

School Direct programmes last one year and are largely designed by teachers, for teachers. The course is structured based on the specific skills employers are looking for in NQTs, and therefore employability levels are extremely high on completion. School Direct programmes offer trainees the chance to train in school whilst achieving a PGCE. The programmes offers opportunities to train to teach across all phases; Early Years, Primary and Secondary.

Entry Requirements

 Applicants must have:

  • GCSE English and Mathematics Grade C or above (or an equivalent qualification) and Science Grade C or above for Primary. You must have your GCSEs in place prior to applying for School Direct.
  • The Numeracy and Literacy Skills Test will need to be taken as part of the application process, and ensure you have passed them both before the start of the course. The following link provides more information on the Skills Tests.
  • A DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check as a ‘Trainee School Teacher’ and meet the Secretary of State’s requirements for physical and mental ‘Fitness to Teach’.

The Department for Education promotes entry in to teaching to attract Graduates with degree classes normally at 2:1 or above, schools are encouraged to select participants on this basis.

Partnerships take the lead in interviewing and selecting candidates, but all School Direct candidates must also meet the standard entry requirements of the University, and be approved by the University.
