MSc / PGDip / PGCert Medical Imaging

This programme is aimed at supporting radiographers, to

• enhance their knowledge and skills in their specialist area of imaging
• critically evaluate current research and implement best practice
• reflect on current imaging protocols and techniques
• evaluate, inform and enhance service delivery and patient outcomes
• develop skills in critical thinking

The one-year part-time Postgraduate Certificates in Computed Tomography (next intake: January 2022) and MRI (next intake: 2022/23) attract radiographers from all over the UK and Ireland such is the value and impact of the courses on professional development and departments.

The programmes are delivered in block attendance weeks at the University by academics with expertise in those areas, clinical specialists, and physicists, with opportunities to learn from peers and build networks.

The later part of the course uses work-based learning and the knowledge developed in the course to critically evaluate and reflect on your own practice and that of your department, in order to enhance professional practice.

For those wanting to further develop towards attributes of advanced practice, the Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Imaging has a number of options:

• developing knowledge in research methods to underpin a research project
• leadership skills
• supporting other learners in practice
• engaging in in-depth study in your area of imaging expertise through an independent study project

The MSc Medical Imaging programme is completed with a research project which will develop your ability to analyse contemporary issues in your area of imaging expertise through collection, processing and analysis of data. You can choose from primary research, systematic review or service evaluation projects. You will be supported to format your project for dissemination by producing a research article, conference poster or service evaluation report.
