The travel and tourism industry is more aware than ever of the need to adopt responsible business practices that improve the quality of life within local communities and conserve the environment and cultures of destinations. Marketing, operations and product development practices are changing across the sector and organisations need managers who have the ability to implement responsible tourism strategies.
The course explores domestic and international tourism – as responsible principles are as applicable to the Yorkshire Dales as they are to The Gambia. In addition to developing your subject knowledge, you will learn how to plan, implement and evaluate responsible tourism polices and practices. You will look at real issues and solutions and develop the management skills you need to operate effectively at a strategic level within government, non-governmental and private sectors.
Applicants should have at least a second class honours degree and a year’s work experience in a relevant field including: –
Travel, Tourism, Hospitality, Business, Economics, Marketing, Environmental Management, Ecology, Development, Cultural Heritage Management, Project Management or Planning.
Applicants who do not meet the academic entry requirements will be expected to have equivalent experience and training from a relevant work environment. All applications should be supported by a reference, either academic or professional; all applicants should satisfy our University English language requirements.
English Language Requirement: IELTS 6.0 with no skills below 6.0, or an equivalent qualification. The University provides excellent support for any applicant who may be required to undertake additional English language courses.
